🚨 Scam Alert – Please Be AwareA recent incident on the ward has highlighted a new and convincing scam tactic targeting members of the public. 📌 What HappenedA member of the public was approached by an individual who appeared helpful and informed them that a parking attendant had issued a ticket to their vehicle. The suspect claimed they could help get the ticket cancelled within 10 minutes but needed to download a “driving app” to do so. They then: Asked the driver for their licence (which they did not have on them).Requested payment via credit card and PIN through the fake app.When the driver entered their PIN, the suspect made excuses to leave quickly. Upon returning home, the victim noticed their credit card was missing. Their bank later confirmed cash withdrawals had been made, indicating the suspect had stolen the card after observing the PIN. ⚠️ What’s Going OnIt is believed the suspect used: A fake app to trick the victim into entering their PIN.Distraction tactics to steal the card during or after the interaction.✅ Safety AdvicePlease remind colleagues and the public: Never enter your PIN into a device without covering the keypad.Be cautious of anyone claiming to help with parking tickets or fines.Do not hand your bank card to strangers under any circumstances.If something feels suspicious, walk away and contact the police. |
